In his new book, Willing Slaves of Capital, Professor Gary Stevenson argues that the traditional employee-employer relationship is dead. In its place has emerged a new system of work that is based on precarious employment, low wages, and a lack of benefits. Stevenson calls this system "willing slavery" because it is a system that workers have willingly entered into, despite the fact that it offers them little in return.

Stevenson argues that the rise of willing slavery is due to a number of factors, including the decline of unions, the globalization of the economy, and the increasing power of corporations. As a result of these factors, workers have less bargaining power than ever before. They are forced to accept jobs that offer low wages, few benefits, and little security.

The consequences of willing slavery are devastating for workers. They are more likely to experience poverty, homelessness, and health problems. They are also more likely to be exploited by their employers. Willing slavery is a system that benefits the wealthy and powerful at the expense of the working class.

Stevenson offers a number of solutions to the problem of willing slavery. He calls for the strengthening of unions, the regulation of the labor market, and the creation of a more just and equitable economic system. He also argues that workers need to be educated about their rights and the importance of collective action.

Willing Slaves of Capital is a timely and important book. It offers a clear-eyed analysis of the new realities of work in the 21st century and provides a number of concrete solutions to the problem of willing slavery. It is a must-read for anyone who is concerned about the future of work.
