The Karen people are an ethnic minority group in Myanmar (Burma) who have been fighting for self-determination for over 50 years. The Karen Revolution began in 1949, when the Karen National Union (KNU) was formed to fight for the establishment of an independent Karen state.

The Karen Revolution has been a long and bloody conflict, with both sides committing atrocities. The Burmese military has been accused of human rights abuses, including arbitrary arrests, torture, and extrajudicial killings. The KNU has also been accused of human rights abuses, including the use of child soldiers and the targeting of civilians.

Despite the difficulties they have faced, the Karen people have never given up on their dream of self-determination. In recent years, there have been some signs of progress. In 2011, the Burmese government signed a ceasefire with the KNU, and in 2015, the two sides began peace talks. However, the peace process has been slow and difficult, and there is no guarantee that it will succeed.

Fifty Years in the Karen Revolution in Burma is an in-depth account of the Karen people's struggle for self-determination. Written by an experienced journalist, the book provides a comprehensive overview of the conflict, from its origins in the 1940s to the present day. The book is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the Karen Revolution and the challenges facing the Karen people.
