K2 is the second-highest mountain in the world, and it is also one of the most dangerous. With a summit elevation of 8,611 meters (28,251 feet),K2 is only 237 meters (778 feet) lower than Mount Everest, but it is considered to be a much more challenging climb. The mountain is located in the Karakoram Range in Pakistan, and it is known for its steep slopes, unpredictable weather, and high winds.
The first successful ascent of K2 was made in 1954 by an Italian expedition led by Ardito Desio. The expedition included some of the most experienced mountaineers in the world, including Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni. The climbers faced many challenges on their ascent, including altitude sickness, bad weather, and avalanches. But they persevered, and on July 31, 1954, Lacedelli and Compagnoni reached the summit of K2.
The Race For The Summit Of The World's Most Deadly Mountain is a thrilling account of the first successful ascent of K2. This gripping story of courage, determination, and tragedy will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.
